Description

This is the perfect wave: map surfing in CS:GO

What starts as a bug changes to the trend sport "Surfing" in Counter-Strike. By now there are guides, training maps and competitions by time.
In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the finger doesn't always have to be glued to the trigger. To relax, the inclined CS player goes for a round of "surfing" - which of course fits perfectly into the current season. A positive side effect can be an improved movement, which can be gained through the constant exercises on the special maps.

Surfing allows sliding sideways on objects that, contrary to physical laws, doesn't end after a short distance. Through certain key combinations, the CS player models ride on a "wave", hence the term "surfing". The possibility was already discovered in Counter-Strike version 1.6 and established itself as one of the most popular custom modifications, which is still used today. In the meantime, organizers also challenge professionals to competitions, which can be admired as entertainment between compulsory matches. You can host your own CSGO surf server at Fatality Servers website.

Mastering the technique of surfing can actually give players advantages in the game. Although there aren't many places on the maps where surfing is possible, suitable spots can always be found. This was the case last year in Team Vitality's match against Team Spirit on Overpass. Here Mathieu 'ZywOo' Herbaut used a suitable slope to secure a kill.

Surfing against gravity

To take ideal advantage of the bug in the engine, it requires some dexterity. First, players must attach themselves to the wall - the easiest part of surfing. To do this, they simply jump towards a suitably inclined wall and press either the A or D key in the required direction. The further up the ramp you start, the more momentum the player gets. The mouse hand then comes into play for direction selection, which controls the movement.
